In the Community

The OSMS team is directly involved with Football First, a non-profit company with a mission to bring the F.C. Barcelona values, training and philosophy to the young and under-privileged footballers of Mauritius and Rodrigues.

Phase one began with national trials which saw 1,850 aspiring footballers aged between 10-14 vie for the chance to train for one week with the FC Barcelona youth coaches at their famous Nou Camp training facilities in Barcelona.

Trials were open and free of cost for all participants and held over a five week period in stadiums around Mauritius and Rodrigues. At the end of it all, 24 of the most talented young players enjoyed a trip of a lifetime in Spain which they will surely never forget!

Phase two has now begun with the creation of the AfrAsia Barcelona Club Academy for ages 6 to 16. Teaching the renown FC Barcelona-style of football, the academy shall also include a December football camp in Mauritius in which official youth coaches from FC Barcelona will join us to train academy participants.

Phase three aims to secure affiliation for the Academy with the famous FCBEscola, the official football school of FC Barcelona. As of today’s date, only 12 such schools have been granted this honour worldwide and no sub-Saharan country has yet been afforded this privilege. We want to help the people of Mauritius be the first!
